Being a bridesmaid is a huge privilege, but there is more to your job than just standing at the altar. You’re prepared to take your friend status to a whole new level, to talk all-things-wedding at the drop of a hat, and to be the counselor and confidant that your bestie needs on her wedding day. And now that the big day is drawing closer, you get the chance to test your organisational skills and plan an unforgettable hen party.
Whether you’re a first-time bridesmaid or a seasoned pro, you’ve probably been to a few hen parties yourself.
Some great, some OK and some downright cringe-worthy.
With these past experiences under your belt, you should have a fair idea of what to do and what not to do.
You only get one chance to get this right, so let’s take things up a notch and plan an unforgettable hen night party that is both fabulous and memorable.
Know your bride
There’s no doubt you know the bride very well and you have a good grasp on the things she likes and dislikes. This is her one-and-only hen party and she will know these things come with a reputation to push boundaries. Just be sure your plans match her personality.
Take the time to picture your bride in the scenarios you have in mind. If you don’t think she’ll be up for it or your plans may upset her in any way, simply don’t do it. Your bride is there to have fun and although many won’t mind a little humiliation here and there, it’s important to know her limits.
If you’re unsure, ask the bride what she wants, and doesn’t want before you begin planning your unforgettable hen party.
Be considerate to your guests
You’re also planning this event on behalf of the bride’s family and friends.
Whilst it’s impossible to please everyone, you need to make the effort to try. Any activities that you think aren’t suitable for the older or more conservative guests, reserve these for later in the evening when they go home. There will be plenty of time to do it all.
It also pays to acknowledge everyone’s physical capabilities. If there are a few that can’t partake in a couple of things, make sure they’re happy to sit it out before you make any bookings and have refreshments available while they wait.
Just don’t go planning a full day of abseiling unless everyone can join in.
Communication is key
This is where social media makes things so much easier to plan. Set up a Facebook page that allows guests to ask questions and stay informed about the day.
Particularly if you’re asking them to contribute to the cost, the last thing your guests will want is to show up on the day, and have absolutely no idea what’s happening.
You can still keep an element of surprise, there’s no harm in that.
Just ensure you have given them some idea of what’s planned, the meeting location and time. Event pages are also a great place to ask if anyone has any dietary requirements and to throw around a few ideas and gauge interest.
Look after everyone and you will have one unforgettable hen party
You and your fellow bridesmaids will need to be on form to ensure everyone is having a good time. Pace yourself, you need enough stamina to keep going and to ensure the guests’ drinks are flowing.
There will be people there who won’t know each other and it’s up to you to break the ice and ensure everyone connects in some way.
Ice breakers are a great way to introduce people to each other before you spend the day and night together.
Relax and have fun!
Most importantly, have fun. You deserve to relax after having spent the time organising such an unforgettable hen party.
The bride will appreciate all the effort you have put in into planning the day and she will remember this for the rest of her life.
If you’re finding it difficult to settle down, look around at all the happy faces and remind yourself of the great job you’ve done.
Choose a memorable location and arrange transport
As much as we’d all like to, not all of us can afford an island location. Fortunately, there are fantastic alternatives in the Auckland area that will make the event just as memorable.
You might have a day and night planned at several locations in the area. An easy and affordable way to transport everyone from A to B is to hire a Party Bus. The Party Bus fleet has a range of transport options from standard to premium, you just need to decide what works better for you.
It’s nice to be able to stay together throughout the day, and with BYO and fully-licensed options available, the party can keep going between venues.
For a truly unforgettable hen party experience, why not have it on board a luxury bus?
The VIPER Limo Coach is the perfect venue for a fabulous hen party. The DJ, dance floor, lounge seating and onboard bar are a great combination for a wonderful night with friends.
Call Party Bus today to book. Combining transport with a luxury venue will make one fantastic unforgettable hen party.
